On closer inspection, however, it turned out that the image was not a photograph of a real event in Portland, but instead a fabrication created by combining two photographs of scenes that unfolded in South America nearly a decade apart.
The image of the police officers comes from a photo of “South American riot police” that was uploaded to the Getty Images archive in 2008. A clear visual clue that the photograph was not taken in Portland was that the first officer’s shield is marked “Policia”, the Spanish or Portuguese word for police.
If you’ve been reading my Substacks you know I live in Portland. While we are a mostly Demcratic state we obviously do have some Republican residents. One of them is Lori Chavez-DeRemer the United States Secretary of Labor.
I decided to look at their X page, https://x.com/Oregon_GOP, to see if there were any replies to this post and found it was no longer there.

We all know that Antifa really doesn’t exist as an organization in the usual sense of the word. We don’t even know if the people arrested even know each other. Apparently just wearing black means one is in Antifa.
