Why my Substack newsletter is called "A Beta Brain:

My original Substack newsletter was simply called Hal Brown's Substack. This was the title that appeared above all the posts. While other writers like two of my favorites named their Substacks with creative names. Attorney and columnist Sabrina Haake calls hers the rhyming The Haake Take and psycholgical and neuroscientist Dr. Frank George calls his The Gaslight Report. I went though two names before coming up with "A Beta Brain." 

One was Hal Brown's Stressline. I chose this because decades age I had two websites called Stressline, one Cranberry Stressline (we used to grow cranberries for Ocean Spray) and the other Police Stressline (I was a reserve police officers for 20 years and had many officers in therapy). 

Then I thought one referencing Beta brain waves would be better. They are associated with active thinking, concentration, and alertness. They play a crucial role in cognitive functions like problem-solving and decision-making. I called the Substack "Brown's Beta brain waves."  

Then I realized there was more associated with the term "beta" than brain waves. There is also the beta personality which is contrasted with the aggressive alpha personality. The beta personality type is often characterized as friendly, nurturing, and sensitive, prioritizing cooperation and emotional connection over dominance. This is what led me to the current name: A Beta Brain. 

I am not wedded to keeping it, howver unless I come up with something better I will keep it.
