Today's Daily Kos article - Comment Here
Full disclosure: I found the Freud quote in a New Yorker movie review of Infinity Wars. Kudos to Anthony Lane the author who really knows his Freud. Then I found a PDF of the entire paper. This is from The New Yorker: The person who prophesied this film, more than a century ago, is Freud. In 1914, he wrote, “Even dire criminals and comic heroes captivate us within the context of the arts by dint of the narcissistic rigor with which they keep at bay anything tending to diminish their ego.” Exactly. Iron Man in a nutshell. Or Thanos. And don’t even get me started on Doctor Strange, whose rigor extends to the curve described by his cowlick. I was as pumped as the next fan when I read the cast list of the film, and yet, in the event, it suffers from the same uneasy bonhomie that infects every supergroup. All-star spectacle it may be, but it’s still like listening to two and a half hours of Tin Machine.

Trump once again seeking advice from ousted Steve Bannon as Chief of Staff Kelly is pushed to the side: reported in Wall Street Journal despite his show of confidence yesterday

The Brilliant Egomaniac Who Could Bring Down Donald Trump: Slate

Could the Daniels case bring Trump down? It has the advantage of obviousness. The Russia scandal, comprising various scenarios around collusion and an encyclopedia of unpronounceable names, is difficult to follow and understand. The Stormy Daniels story, if less important, has the virtue of being extremely easy to follow: sex with a porn star, lies, and hush money. If there’s not enough rope here to hang Trump with, it does give him enough rope to hang himself, which Trump shows every indication of doing.
Indeed, the president appears to be doing a Stormy-in-reverse, firing his competent lawyers like John Dowd and Ty Cobb in favor of the past-it Rudy Giuliani, who immediately implicated his client by acknowledging that the $130,000 payment to Daniels was made to influence the 2016 election. Every time Daniels’ lawyer prods him into another incriminating lie—like Giuliani’s cockamamie idea that the monthly retainer he paid Michael Cohen was a “reimbursement”—the president multiplies his jeopardy, a fact Avenatti is quick to tout on CNN, MSNBC, and CNN again.

This week proved God exists, and he has a wicked sense of humor: Dana Milbank, WaPo
But what if Trump actually were the prayerful sort? If he were — and, given recent events, it would be advisable — his National Day of Prayer remarks would likely be rather different. Something, perhaps, (ending) like this:
O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven, heal those who are broken in body and spirit. (Yet do not hesitate to send down on Michael Avenatti a case of laryngitis.) Restore, I pray, the dignity of Sarah Sanders; she knows not what she says. Revive Harold Bornstein from his fragility, and inspire him to take it down a notch.
Watch over Thy child Scott Pruitt, O Lord, and grant him a day without a new scandal. May John Kelly, guided by Thy Providence, cease calling me names. May Marco Rubio complain no more about the tax cut. May Jared Kushner not revise his financial disclosures for the 41st time.
By your grace, hold the tongue and pen of Stormy Daniels, Karen McDougal and many others, that they grant no further interviews nor write memoirs.
Bless Alan Dershowitz. Raise up Devin Nunes. Strengthen Bibi. And, for heaven’s sake, cut the mustache of John Bolton.

Finally, O Eternal God, grant that my greatness be known throughout this land. For mine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory. Amen.

Breaking news: Pence's doctor resigns after reports of concerns about Jackson's conduct

Why a South Korean newspaper asked experts to look at photos of Kim Jong Un’s shoes (Washinton Post)

Excerpt: Last week's summit between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un produced an official declaration that is now being studied by experts around the world. But more mundane-seeming details are also being devoured.

For example, one South Korean newspaper published an article this week that was largely based on photographs of Kim and Moon's shoes. (See below)

A reasonable reader might wonder if such details matter, but keep this in mind: Despite being the supreme leader of North Korea, many aspects of Kim's life are unknown. Until his unannounced trip to Beijing in March, there was no indication he had even left the country since taking over from his late father in 2011.

That means virtually all the images and video of Kim scoured by foreign analysts since he took power have come from North Korean state media. Those outlets are unlikely to show Kim in anything but the most flattering light — indeed, many photographs of Kim appeared to have been digitally altered.

An accurate image of or detail about Kim could provide some important clues about his health and other physical characteristics. These are details that could actually be useful for crafting policy toward North Korea. If Kim were in seriously bad health, for instance, it would raise questions about his leadership and the line of succession in Pyongyang.

"Artists also feel burdened by Full HD (FHD) quality. It's good enough to look like a pore. I feel Kim Jong-eun's feelings in high quality in Korea broadcasting. "

On the 27th, Kim Jong-un was revealed to the public on the status of the North Korean state secretary. One day, Kim Jung Eun's move was broadcast on TV on a full HD camera. It is the first time Kim Jung Eun has been exposed to external media cameras for such a long time in the Kim family of three generations. Kim Jung-eun took the toilet to care for "biometric information" security, but could not avoid "physical exposure".

Digital editorial department analyzed Kim Jung Eun's appearance, health status, psychology, and fashion in three dimensions along with 7 experts including professional, profiler, public relations agency representative, shoe manufacturer, marketing executive of luxury goods and automobile brand.

◇ Breath once every 1.2 seconds after walking 200 meters
Kim Jong - eun had difficulty moving about 200m from the north side of Panmunggak to the house of peace in the south.
When I signed up for a real Peace House guest book, I breathed a sigh of relief. I stopped breathing or breathed deeply during the conversation.

In the video, Kim Jung Eun is smaller than Moon Jae-in. Moon is 172cm tall. Kim Jung Eun's case is known as 170cm. In fact, Kim Jung Eun seemed to be 2 to 3 cm smaller than Moon President when President Moon and Kim Jong Eun were standing side by side. However, the story is different when it reflects the "height" shoes. The foot angle of Kim Jung Eun is 40 degrees. The angle of the shoe that Mr. Moon was wearing was 30 degrees. The difference of 10 degrees is ① when there is a lot of flesh on the instep ② when the '

Kim Jong-kyoung, chairman of the shoe shop, said, "As the insole is structurally inside the shoe, the slope of the shoes and other parts that catch the center of gravity increases." He said, "Kim Jong-eun's outer appearance is about 4cm, which is a little higher than the general shoe's surface (3 ~ 3.5cm)." Instead, the height of the rooftop is about 4 ~ 5cm, did. The key difference between President Moon and Kim Jong Eun is estimated to be more than 5cm, not 2cm.

Kim Jung-eun (left) and Moon Jae-in (right) were at different angles at the inter-Korean summit on June 27. Kim Jung-eun's frontal angle of the shoe is approaching 40 degrees, which is characteristic of KIEP NO. The height of the shoes has the effect of looking 4 or 5 cm tall. / Korea Co Photo Reporters

◇ Improvised, cool, and verbose narration

When the two first met, President Moon said, "When will I be able to cross over to the North?" Kim Jong - eun crossed the Military Demarcation Line, saying, "Let 's go now. I can say that if I come to the north in such an environment of the South, it will be really frustrating. " I made an unexpected remark.

Kim Hye-ry, a lecturer at the speech and presentation specialist, said, "When Kim Jong-eun repeatedly used 'I talked about before' and 'I lost 11 years', I talked with impatient and emotional rather than pre- I have used the adjectives and adjectives that reveal emotions such as 'open mind' and 'earnestly'.

Today's Daily Kos story:

"Trump is a thin-skinned narcissist with thugs" from Schiller to ICE to Border Patrol

Click to read or make comments.

”In a discussion on MSNBC of how Trump’s doctor has finally revealed his story about the infamous letter one of the guests (I don’t recall her name, let me know if you do) said Trump is a thin skin narcissist with thugs.
We still don't know whether Keith Schiller was armed when he paid his visit to Dr. Bornstein. My hunch is that he was.
This got me to thinking about the intimidating, powerful, and armed authorities Trump can order to do his bidding, not overseas but in the homeland. I don’t consider them thugs, although there may be bad apples in the bunch. However, they are armed to the teeth and have the extraordinary power to detain and arrest anyone.

As someone who was not only a go-to therapist for police officers who published the number one website, Police Stressline, on police stress I have strong opinions about good policing and what makes an effective and ethical police officer.

A number of print police magazines republished my articles. This is from Florida.
I also was an auxiliary police officer for 20 years. When Chief Clifford Kline (who retired as a Detroit street cop and moved to our rural town and became chief) asked me to become the only auxiliary officer on his seven-man department he told me that the main thing I always had to remember was that my badge gave me the awesome power to deprive someone of their freedom, if only for a short time, and under extraordinary circumstances their life.

When I see these heavily armed and body-armored federal agents wearing police on their uniforms all I can think of is how, as a mere volunteer cop I was considered something less than “real police.” If I was only a real cop wanna-be, what do you call these folks?
I have known probably 100 real police, some as friends, some as ride-along partners, some as acquaintances, some as clients. Our job was to protect and to serve, and as one of my cop friends, Jim Shelley, used to say when I rode with him and were preparing our police car, to “go out and crush crime.”

I spent many hours riding with Jim and have great memories of our long talks and our adventures. When he left Mason PD he went on to have an amazing career as an author and in law enforcement
Much of the policing we did in our small Michigan department was focused on watching for drunk drivers and we won the MADD statewide award for best enforcement twice. That too was real policing.
When we moved to Middleboro, Massachusetts I went to their reserve-intermittent police academy and became a special police officer.
In all modesty, I worked with “real cops” during a time when the police seemed to be mostly respected and admired by law-abiding residents.
Our job wasn’t to do the bidding of a thin-skinned narcissistic president with a racist political agenda.

☺I missed this on Lawrence O'Donnell when it was aired in March, 2016. It featured two experts on narcissism I wasn't familiar with.

I posted something not about Donald Trump on Daily Kos for a change:

Yesterday I called into the Thom Hartmann progressive radio show because he was talking about the Michelle Wolf monologue and invited listeners to call in. I actually got on the air, my first on talk radio.

Thom also went to Michigan State. Like many people, he didn't know who Aunt Lydia from "Handmaid's Tale" was and why likening her and Sarah Sanders (my Sunday Daily Kos article) was a sharp barbed comparison. I explained it to him and likened her to a male Simon Legree: what he was to slaves she was to the handmaids.

Thom has family in Portland and I am hoping to persuade him to have me on his show to discuss Trumpolgy as an “ expert” on Donald Trump’s malignant narcissism the next time he visits here.

After the show, I sent Thom a Tweet which he saw and responded to.

Because of our Michigan State University connection - he went there eight years after I did - I Tweeted him a link to today’s Kos article too.

Thom and I have something of a Twitter relationship as he generally “likes” the Tweets I send him.

Thom Hartmann is a well known progressive voice on the radio and in liberal circles. He has 6.25 million listeners a week and his show on Sirrus is one of the top progressive talk radio programs.  He has authored many books and he has just starting publishing articles on AlterNet. We may have unknowingly crossed paths during the anti-war protests because he was a member of Students for a Democratic Society(SDS) and while not a member myself I knew a few of their most active, and notorious, members. It is very likely he and I participated in some of the same rallies and marches.

These dubious concepts advocate conflict, cruelty and suffering. By Valerie Tarico

White on the subject of religion, here's Pastor John Pavlovitz's open letter to Sarah Sanders:

I watch you every week as you repeatedly distort the truth,
as you attack journalists who come carrying facts.
as you vilify politicians who oppose your employer’s malfeasance,
as you categorically defend his every vile statement, every personal attack, every nonsensical Tweet, every baseless firing, every legislative assault.
I watch your face contort with the unmistakable tells of a person who doesn’t believe a word they’re saying; one who’s sold their soul and is now hopelessly trapped in a lie about a lie about a lie.
I wonder what Jesus-story you tell yourself, about the fact that every week you stand in front of a microphone and willingly perpetuate falsehoods that do great harm to millions of people?
That has to be rough—or maybe it isn’t.
Maybe it’s a breeze for you now.
Maybe you’ve convinced yourself it’s somehow all the Lord’s work.
Maybe you’ve been on this slippery slope of deception for so long that you actually believe the lies now too.
Or maybe your Jesus and my Jesus are just that different.
Maybe your Jesus is good with deporting immigrants.
Maybe your Jesus celebrates the poor staying poor.
Maybe your Jesus is fine with affairs with porn stars.
Maybe your Jesus is totally cool with supremacist Cabinet members.
Maybe your Jesus amens the banning and the wall-building.

Maybe your Jesus sanctions the fear of brown people.
Maybe your Jesus is pleased with sick people going broke trying to not die.
Maybe your Jesus applauds the racism and the bitterness and the cruelty.Maybe your Jesus somehow blesses the lies you broker in on behalf of the monster you work for.

Old me:

I don't know whether this is good news or not - I certainly hope it is. We'll have to see whether this guy makes Rachel Maddow's big board.

Trump’s Immigration And Customs Enforcement Chief To Retire

Thomas Homan had become the face of the White House’s deportation efforts. But his U.S. Senate confirmation stalled.

Here's breaking news about someone familiar to MSNBC viewers.

Yesterday's story on Daily Kos generated over 150 comments because it was recommended by the editors and thus it stayed on the front page all day.
The first story that caught my eye today was ththe following.

While we're on The National Enquirer, another fake news website, Daily World Update, published a story saying Michelle Wolf had been fired by Comedy Central and had issued an apology to Sarah Sanders. SNOPES was on top of this, labeling it as totally false.

EXCERPT: Amidst a national press debate over the tone and appropriateness of Wolf’s material the following day, the Daily World Update web site published an article reporting that the Comedy Central cable channel had fired the comedian and issued an apology to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders:
The entertainment industry is reeling this morning after one of their rising stars, Michelle Wolf, has been fired from her show on Comedy Central. She was also dismissed as a contributing writer on The Daily Show. The move comes after Wolf’s brutal takedown of Sarah Huckabee Sanders at the White House Correspondent’s dinner.
None of this was true. Wolf has a new variety-sketch series called The Break coming to Netflix (not Comedy Central), and that series is still scheduled to begin streaming weekly on 27 May 2018. Nor did Comedy Central issue an apology to Sarah Huckabee Sanders over Wolf’s comments at the correspondents dinner.
This report about Wolf’s putative firing originated with Daily World Update, a site that is part of a fake news network which engages in political trolling under the guise of offering “satire.” The site’s disclaimer notes that “Everything on this website is fiction.”
Daily World Update ran another nearly identical (and similarly false) article reporting that Hulu had cancelled plans to stream Wolf’s stand-up special.
