My thought: If Trump was rational it would appear to be in his best interest not to risk impeachment, Senate conviction and a subsequent vote so he can never run again. McConnell can make this possible. McConnell's silence speaks volumes. If Trump wants to run again he make sure he can do this only if he resigns. He'd do this after pardoning everyone of his sycophants but not risk pardoning himself. If he did this not only might it not stand up in court, but it might prevent Pence from pardoning him. How could Pence pardon someone who already received a presidential pardon? Damned if I know.
